Travel restrictions
Please note that any customer wishing to drive into another country must advise Avis at time of pick up. EU residents can only drive a vehicle with an EU license plate out of Switzerland therefore you will be asked to sign a document when you collect the car to advise of your plans. Avis endeavour to provide all EU customers wanting to drive out of the country an EU plate car.
In general you can take the vehicle out of the country of rental into all western Europe countries (no one way rentals).
You can take the vehicle out of the country of rental for a charge of CHF 41.96 per day, up to a maximum charge of CHF 419.64 per rental into the following countries (no one way rentals): Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Greece.
You are not allowed to take the vehicle into the following countries: Africa, Albania, Armenia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Turkey and Commonwealth of Independent States CIS.
With group H, I, M and P vehicles as well as with BMW and Mercedes cars you are not allowed to enter the following countries:
Balearic Islands, Canary Islands, Corsica, Cyprus (Greek part), Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Gibraltar, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway (northern part), Poland, Sardinia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden (northern part), United Kingdom.
With group I and J, BMW, Porsche and Mercedes cars you may also not enter Italy and the South of France (Nice, Cannes, Marseille, Montpellier, Nîmes, Perpignan, Aix en Provence, Avignon and surroundings).
